Kwik Translator
Privacy Policy
At a glance
- There is no account. Your translations, history and phrasebook stay on your device.
- Translation runs on your device. The text you translate is not sent to us or to any translation server.
- The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, you choose whether ads may be personalized.
- We use Google Firebase for usage statistics, crash reports and, if you allow them, notifications. None of these include the text you translate.
1. Who we are
Kwik Translator ("the app") is a free translator for Android and iOS, published by LiveQbits ("we", "us"). LiveQbits is responsible for the personal data processed through the app (the data controller). For any privacy question or request, email liveqbits@gmail.com.
2. Information that stays on your device
- Your translation history (if "Save translation history" is on), your saved phrasebook and your flashcard progress.
- Your preferences: languages, theme, app language, and the optional name and "I speak" language in your profile.
This information is stored only on your device. We never receive it. You can delete history from the History tab, delete phrases by swiping them away, turn history off in Settings, or remove everything by uninstalling the app.
3. Translation
- Translation runs on your device using Google ML Kit. The text you translate is not sent to us or to any translation server.
- The first time you use a language, the app downloads its language pack (about 30 MB) from Google's servers. Like any download, this request reveals your IP address and basic device information to Google. You can limit these downloads to Wi-Fi in Settings.
4. Microphone, speech and text-to-speech
- Voice input uses your device's built-in speech recognition, provided by Google on Android and by Apple on iOS. Depending on your device and its settings, your audio may be processed by that provider under its own privacy policy. We do not record, receive or store audio.
- Reading translations aloud uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine.
- The app only uses the microphone while you are actively speaking to it, after you have granted permission.
5. Camera and photos
Photos you take or choose, and the live camera view, are processed on your device to find text. We do not upload or keep them. The app only accesses the camera or your photos when you use those features and have granted permission.
6. Usage statistics and crash reports
We use Google Firebase to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
- Firebase Analytics records which features are used, for example that a translation was made offline from English to Spanish, or which screen was opened. Each record comes with device and app information: the model, operating system, app version, and the country derived from your IP address. It never records the text you translate, speak or photograph.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Analytics runs in a restricted mode that does not store an analytics identifier on your device.
- Firebase Crashlytics sends a crash report when the app crashes. The report contains technical details of the error, the state of the device and app at that moment, and an installation identifier.
- We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not use it to identify you.
7. Notifications
- If you allow notifications, the app registers a push token with Firebase Cloud Messaging. It also subscribes that token to general announcement topics, including one for your app language, so news reaches you in your language.
- The app asks for permission once, after you've used it a few times. You can turn notifications on or off at any time in your device settings, or from Settings → Notifications in the app.
8. Advertising
The app shows ads from Google AdMob. To deliver ads, measure them, personalize them where you allow it, and prevent fraud, Google may collect:
- device identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID or, if you allow tracking on iOS, the IDFA;
- your IP address and an approximate location derived from it;
- device and app information, and how you interact with ads.
Your choices
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: you are asked for consent through Google's consent form. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Ad privacy choices.
- iOS: the app asks for permission to track. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Settings → Google → Ads).

9. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
- Consent: for personalized ads, for storing an analytics identifier on your device, and for notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time using the choices above. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect processing that happened before.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the app free with non-personalized ads, to measure ads and prevent ad fraud, to understand overall usage in restricted mode, and to diagnose crashes so the app keeps working well. You can object to this processing by contacting us.
10. Who receives data
- Google (Firebase). Google processes analytics, crash and notification data as our service provider. Read the Firebase privacy information.
- Google (AdMob). Google acts as an independent controller for advertising. Read the Google Privacy Policy.
- Your device's speech provider (Google or Apple), when you use voice input, under its own privacy policy.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some US state laws may treat Google's ad personalization as "sharing" personal information. You can opt out with the advertising choices above.
11. International transfers
Google may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland is transferred, Google relies on safeguards recognised by those jurisdictions, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. How long data is kept
- Data on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Firebase project, at most 14 months.
- Crash reports are kept for 90 days.
- Push tokens are kept until you uninstall the app or they expire after a long period without use.
- We do not run our own servers that store your personal information.
13. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, email liveqbits@gmail.com. We will reply within the time the law requires, usually one month.
The data we receive through Firebase is not linked to your name or contact details, so we may not be able to find records that belong to you. Uninstalling the app resets the identifiers it uses for analytics, crash reports and notifications.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. The European Data Protection Board publishes a list of these authorities.
14. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where they live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
15. Security
Data on your device is protected by your operating system's app sandbox. Data sent to Google is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we use the protections provided by these platforms and keep the data we collect to a minimum.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when the app gains new features. The "Last updated" date above shows the current version. Significant changes will be announced in the app or on its store listing.
